The Organisation

Our client is a is a licensed, fee-for-service organisation that supports children, young people, families and carers, who live in Residential Out of Home Care and In Home Support Services, via unique and tailored therapeutic programs. Their mission is to provide a holistic, therapeutic approach, centred around stability, to address the specific needs of children, young people and families in their care.

The Role

We are currently seeking a Workplace Health and Safety Advisor for a permanent, full-time position based at our client's Beenleigh office. This role involves office-based work, as well regular travel using a fleet vehicle to various care homes across the Brisbane region. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

The Workplace Health and Safety Advisor will promote a safe and healthy work environment across all areas of the organisation, including frontline services, maintenance teams, and office-based staff. The role will ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety legislation, supports incident and risk management, facilitates staff return to work post-incident, and drives the implementation of best practice safety processes. The Advisor will work closely with Divisional Managers to guide the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s WHS systems, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Promote a strong WHS culture across a the organisation, to office-based staff, frontline workers, remote teams, and multi-site operations.

Build strong connections with individuals and teams by providing on-site support and delivering tailored safety training, presentations, and consultation sessions across all service areas

Guide managers and employees in meeting health, safety, and risk compliance requirements, including incident and hazard reporting, investigations, and implementing corrective actions.

Develop and implement emergency preparedness strategies, risk frameworks, and action plans.

Provide expert advice and support on WHS legislation, regulations, and codes of practice, ensuring ongoing compliance and alignment with industry standards.

Monitor legislative changes and assess impacts on current policies, procedures, and workplace practices.

Support the management of WorkCover claims, rehabilitation, return-to-work programs, and staff with pre-existing medical conditions or injuries.

Maintain and oversee the incident database and ensure follow-up investigations and actions are completed effectively.

Prepare WHS performance reports for the Executive Manager and contribute to audit processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

To Be Successful

Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role

Sound working knowledge of Queensland Workplace Health and Safety and Injury Management Legislation.

Experience in reporting, analysis, and feedback processes

High level of data entry skills and accuracy utilising Microsoft Word and Excel

Demonstrated experience developing/reviewing policies, procedures, work instructions; undertaking data analysis; formulating system documentation; and developing and monitoring quality action plans.

Detailed knowledge of Work Health & Safety and Worker’s Compensation, Rehabilitation Legislation, regulations, codes, standards, and guidelines

Experience performing a similar role within the Community Services sector, specifically within a Residential Care provider, is highly regarded.

Specific Requirements

Drivers Licence Class ‘C’ (Open) and a willingness to drive.

Child Safety and Personal History Check (LCS2)

Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

Current First Aid and CPR Certificate

Be prepared to comply with all public health directions including but not limited to vaccinations and/or boosters.

Salary and Benefits

$85,000 - $91,500 PA + 11.5% Super, dependent on experience.
