About the role

As Manager, Policy, you will work closely with the Information Commissioner, Privacy Commissioner and Right to Information Commissioner to provide high level legislative and policy advice. Your work will assist in shaping public disclosure and decision making on the evolving challenges of information privacy, digital transformation and human rights.

What we’re looking for:

Proven expertise in legislative or public policy development, preferably in areas related to privacy, access to information or technology.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across diverse audiences.

Strong analytical and research capabilities with a track record of delivering high-impact policy work.

A commitment to upholding information rights as human rights and promoting integrity and transparency in public administration.

Experiencing liaising with government agencies, community organisations and/or parliamentary committees.

This is a temporary, full-time (flexible) opportunity for a period of up to 12 months.

Key responsibilities

Provide high level policy advice on complex legislative and emerging issues, including Privacy, AI and technology.

Conduct research, risk analysis, and prepare reports, briefings, and correspondence on policy matters.

Draft submissions and support Commissioners in parliamentary and policy forums.

Engage with public sector agencies, other jurisdictions, and community stakeholders on policy initiatives.

Contribute to OIC’s strategic projects.

Represent the Commissioners in meetings, forums and committees.

About OIC

OIC is a small independent statutory authority that plays an important role in Queensland’s integrity framework. Our vision is building trust through transparency.

We report to the Queensland Parliament and carry out functions under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld), and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld). Our purpose, as a contemporary regulator, is to promote and independently uphold information access and privacy rights. We facilitate greater and easier public access to government-held information and assist agencies understand their obligations under the IP Act to safeguard the personal information that they hold. Our office reviews agency decisions about access to information, mediates privacy complaints, and monitors and reports on agency compliance to Parliament.
