The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) was established with a clear vision that the Northern Territory’s natural assets are managed sustainably for the benefit of all. The Department leads a strategic land resource assessment program that underpins land use planning, economic development, improved land management and conservation initiatives.
Positioned within DLPE, the Office of Water Security is a small strategic policy team that advises the Minister for Water Resources; coordinates whole of Government water policy and programs; and works collaboratively with other Government agencies to develop, deliver and report on the Territory Water Plan.
As a Senior Policy Officer your primary objective is to provide high-level project management, coordination and policy support to the Office of Water Security in the development of strategic water policy and programs, and the implementation of the Territory Water Plan.
Your key duties and responsibilities involve undertaking research, policy analysis and/or technical analysis on options on outcomes and prepare advice to support water security outcomes for the Northern Territory.
Additionally, you will assist in the coordination of stakeholder engagement and contribute to develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with across NTG agencies and coordinate the Northern Territory Water Grid funding proposals, including preparing a range of documents and ministerial correspondence and briefings.
To be successful you require, well-developed project management, effective coordination and organisational skills, supported by demonstrated research, strategic thinking and analytical skills, and experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of government policy.
Strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain effective networks is essential.
In return, you’ll receive a competitive remuneration package, inclusive of 11.5% superannuation, 6 weeks’ recreational and 3 weeks’ personal leave, 17.5% annual leave allowance and additional paid leave to cover the Christmas – New Year’s shut-down.
