The Centre for Population Health aims to promote health and prevent morbidity and mortality caused by modifiable risk factors. The Centre’s portfolio encompasses blood-borne viruses, sexual health, tobacco and obesity (covering healthy eating and physical activity). The strategies used to address these issues include statewide policy and planning, legislation and regulation, program development, resource allocation, performance monitoring, research and evaluation.

About this role

This is a pivotal role for a dynamic individual who enjoys working in a progressive and fast-paced environment to deliver cross-government policy outcomes, often within tight timeframes.

You will have project and policy experience, problem solving, analysis and communication skills, as well as the ability to work with a range of stakeholders in a complex policy environment. You will be supporting development and implementation of best-practice physical activity, healthy built environment and active transport policies and programs, as part of NSW Health’s broader approach to the prevention of overweight and obesity.

Crown Clerk 7/8, starting salary from $110,266 - $122,058 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

What you'll be doing

  • Contributing to and informing strategic and operational policy projects, focused on improving physical activity across the lifespan and encouraging built environments that support healthy behaviours and choices.
  • Supporting development and implementation of best-practice projects, policies and programs for the NSW Ministry of Health, public health organisations, and related government agencies.
  • Providing project and policy advice and analysis to support Centre management and executive and contribute to the achievement of NSW Health’s objectives in relation to key physical activity and population health policies and strategies.

About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:

  • Project management and policy skills to review and evaluate projects and policy approaches for the NSW Ministry of Health and related government agencies to address current and emerging issues in relation to chronic and non-communicable disease prevention, with a focus on physical activity, healthy placemaking, built environments and active transport.
  • Ability to provide advice, analysis and support to senior executives, staff across the NSW Health Service and the NSW Ministry of Health to consistently interpret and apply policies and practices in relation to physical activity.
  • Excellent communication skills to enable preparation of high-quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy advice and analysis, discussion papers, or circulars to inform and to respond to requests, or initiate consideration of new approaches.
  • Analysis and evaluation skills to assess new approaches and provide sound strategic advice on their potential for application within NSW Health and achievement of Ministry and Government objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to help build and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management.
