The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

The Multiprofession policy team, which sits within the Strategy and Policy Directorate, works across all professions to build Ahpra's regulatory policy function by leading shared policies, enabling proactive and contemporary policy responses, growing policy capability and promoting the value of consistency across the National Scheme, with the aim of achieving best possible outcomes for the public, practitioners, Ahpra and the National Boards.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to contemporary regulatory policy in a fast-changing healthcare landscape. Reporting to the National Manager Multiprofession Policy, this is a senior role that will lead the development and implementation of key strategic policy initiatives across Ahpra with input from National Boards, external stakeholders, and our regulatory partners. You will be expected to operate at a highly strategic level across the organisation and respond proactively to issues and requests for advice. Knowledge of the health sector, experience managing complex policy and engagement programs of work, and people management experience will be highly valued in this role.

These are full time, fixed term roles (six months from commencement with possible extension), preferred location is Melbourne, however applications outside this jurisdiction will be accepted.

In this role you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership, direction, and development for staff working on multiprofession policies and projects
  • Undertake and/or lead policy projects, including development, implementation, review, and evaluation to manage risk and issues
  • Develop and implement components of strategic policy projects such as multi-profession campaigns, coordinating engagement with National Boards, including through Working and Reference groups, and organising multi-stakeholder Forums, focus groups, and surveys
  • Proactively consult and collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders, e.g., National Legal, Board, and Committee members, other regulators, international bodies, to obtain information to inform development, implementation, and review of regulatory policy, or to gain an indication of the likely impact of the policy or its components
  • Coordinate and/or develop papers and deliver presentations about strategic policy issues for a variety of forums and audiences
  • Oversee the development and management of a multiprofession policy program and/or work plans related to multiprofession regulatory policies and projects for the Strategy and Policy Directorate and National Boards

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing strategic leadership and management to achieve policy and procedural change
  • Demonstrated skills in leading and building a positive team culture and enabling teams to perform at their best
  • Strong policy, analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for collaboration and engagement to achieve policy outcomes
