Position: Senior Appeals Planner / Town Planner – Appeals

Location: Cleveland

Employment Type: Mon – Fri, 36.25 hrs a week until Nov 2025 with possibility of extension

Payrate: $45.93/hr + super

Maxima is currently seeking various highly motivated individuals as a Senior Appeals Planner/Town Planner – Appeals for one of our government clients.

As a Senior Appeals Planner/Town Planner – Appeals, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and managing development appeals and provide high-quality planning advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the management of development appeals in the Planning and Environment Court.
• Ensure compliance with Council’s direction, relevant planning legislation, planning instruments, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Deliver professional, competent planning advice and correspondence to internal and external stakeholders
• Brief solicitors, instruct legal representatives, and coordinate Court experts representing Council.
• Oversee the assessment of development applications.
• Apply sound town planning knowledge and coordinate inputs from specialist officers to ensure thorough and compliant assessments.
• Contribute to improving operational frameworks, service delivery, team morale, and customer service relationships within the Planning Assessment Unit.
• Represent Council as a planning expert in Court proceedings when requested.
• Stay informed on emerging land use and development assessment practices.
• Support continuous enhancement of team competencies and capabilities.

What We’re Looking For:

• Recognised Town Planning Degree or equivalent.
• Satisfactory Criminal History Check prior to appointment.
• A current C-class driver’s license.
• Relevant industry experience in managing development appeals and Court matters. (desirable)
