Senior Communications & Marketing Officer

Mackay Regional Council is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our community through effective communication and public relations. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Communications and Marketing Officer to join our team.
The Senior Communications and Marketing Officer will provide high-quality communications, public relations and marketing advice to promote council services and activities. This role involves working under general direction to ensure a proactive approach to community communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Communications Coordinator in preparing and finalising council's Annual Report.
- Collaborate in creating and editing video content to engage internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and refine key messaging for various issues and projects, ensuring consistency across all communications.
- Implement comprehensive strategies for promotional, marketing, communication, and public relations activities.
- Research and compile news releases, speeches, marketing collateral, and feature stories to support council initiatives.
- Organise or facilitate council events, including Citizenship Ceremonies, Anzac Day and other civic receptions.
- Develop and implement public relations and corporate branding initiatives to enhance council's public image and foster stakeholder relationships.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Essential: Tertiary qualifications in communication, marketing, journalism, or a related field. Practical experience in media relations and stakeholder engagement.
- Desirable: Post-graduate qualifications, current QLD 'C' Class driver's license, and experience with desktop publishing software.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in publication software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and video editing tools (Premiere Pro).
- Expertise in social media marketing and online media engagement.
- Well-developed time management and organisational skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the local government environment and media operations.
Special Requirements:
- Some out-of-hours work and domestic travel.
- Participate in the Disaster Management Committee on a roster basis when the Disaster Coordination Centre is activated during times of flood, cyclone or other natural disaster situations.
