The Intravital Microscopy and Gene Expression (IMAGE) lab uses cutting-edge intravital microscopy and genomic analysis to study the role of immune system in engineered animal models and patients. We are particularly interested in developing ways to improve vaccine-induced immunity, diagnose and treat autoimmune and allergic diseases and develop new cancer immunotherapies. The lab is part of the Precision Immunology Program at the Garvan Institute which aims to develop more precise, targeted immune-based therapies to treat disease.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Laboratory Manager position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the lab. This
includes management of laboratory staff, oversight of laboratory practices and processes,
budget, ethics and colony management.
Salary: Up to $130,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)
Employment Type: 3-year fixed-term

WHAT YOU WILL DO
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES
The key responsibilities may include:
Managing staff including lab meeting and duty rosters.
Animal ethics and regulatory compliance.
Ensure that standard operating procedures are current and reflective of the work performed.
Ensure that results of work undertaken within the laboratory are accurately recorded, reviewed and reported.
Manage and control stock, equipment and services to the laboratory – including purchasing, repair and maintenance.
Contribution to laboratory research projects.
Work working closely with the Garvan Finance team to track spending, perform budget forecasting, and creating reports.
ABOUT YOU
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Formal qualifications and experience
The key skills and experience include:
Experience in a research or production laboratory is desirable but not essential
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to cost and budget a process is desired.
Strong negotiation skills desired.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment required.
Experience in animal work is highly desirable.
