An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mine Accountant / Cost Controller to join a leading mining operation. This role is based at a mine site outside of Mackay, with flexible arrangements for FIFO from Brisbane or DIDO from Mackay on a 9-day fortnight roster.

About the Role

We are seeking a commercially minded and cost-focused accountant to assist the Commercial Manager and Commercial Superintendent in a comprehensive bottom-up review of all cost centre expenditure. This role is critical in driving cost efficiency, ensuring robust financial controls, and supporting strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed reviews and analysis of cost centre spending to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for cost optimisation;
• Prepare and deliver accurate and insightful cost reports to support management decision-making;
• Collaborate with site teams to collect, validate, and analyse financial data;
• Support the development of cost control frameworks and initiatives to drive financial performance; and
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis as required.

About You

• Strong experience as a Cost Controller, Project Accountant, or similar role within mining, resources, or heavy industry sectors;
• Demonstrated expertise in cost analysis, financial reporting, and stakeholder engagement;
• Advanced proficiency with financial systems and Excel;
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proactive and analytical mindset; and
• Previous exposure to mine site environments is highly desirable.
