The Company

Muir is a Tasmanian based maritime manufacturing and engineering business which produces world-renowned, high-quality anchoring equipment for marine vessels from back yard tinnies to the worlds largest superyachts and navy patrol boats.

The Role

We are now seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Manager to join our senior leadership team at our Head Office in Kingston, Tasmania. Reporting directly to the GM, you will be responsible for leading and optimising the full spectrum of our Tasmanian Head Quarters operations, including supply chain, production, logistics, and safety. You will work closely with senior management and lead a diverse team encompassing procurement, logistics, stores, planning, manufacturing engineering, assembly, and workshop supervisors.

As Operations Manager you will be responsible for:

Leading, managing, and motivating the operations teams (Supply Chain, Logistics, Production, Assembly, Workshops) to foster a high-performance culture.

Driving the end-to-end supply chain management process, including supplier management (domestic and international), cost control, quality assurance, and inventory optimisation (utilising systems like SAP).

Overseeing production planning and execution for both recreational and custom anchoring systems, ensuring timely delivery and identifying/resolving bottlenecks.

Championing and maintaining a strong safety culture through the proactive implementation and promotion of the Muir Safety Plan.

Developing and implementing operational strategies focused on continuous improvement, efficiency gains, and cost-effectiveness.

Implementing and refining processes and systems (e.g., SAP, Kanban, S&OP) to support production, procurement, and stock control.

Ensuring adherence to quality standards, including ISO 9001:2015 procedures.

Contributing to wider business objectives as a key member of the senior leadership team.

You will be able to demonstrate:

Significant experience (at least 5 years) in supply chain or production management roles, including managing international suppliers.

Proven experience (at least 5 years) in implementing and maintaining stock control systems (computerised and visual, e.g., SAP).

Solid experience (at least 3 years) within a manufacturing and production environment.

Strong leadership, people management, and team development skills with high emotional intelligence (EQ).

A proactive ability to drive change, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and achieve results collaboratively.

Excellent understanding of inventory control, purchasing principles, and safety protocols within manufacturing.

High degree of commercial acumen and understanding of business profitability.

Strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Practical computer literacy (e.g., Office Suite, ERP systems like SAP B1).

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., Operations, Engineering, Business) OR an appropriate trade background combined with significant operational experience.

A pragmatic, practical, and self-motivated approach.

Knowledge of mechanical equipment/components is required; specific marine industry experience will be well regarded.
