Discover unique opportunities to support adults with impaired capacity

Influence the day-to-day administration of the Office of the PGT

Join the team making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people with impaired decision-making abilities.

The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee is an independent office that provides information and services to the Northern Territory community in the areas of guardianship, advance personal planning, wills and estates, financial management and related matters.

Under the leadership of Beth Walker, the NT’s first Public Guardian, you will provide administrative support and customer service to the team undertaking advocacy and decision making with adults with impaired decision-making capacity who are involved with the Public Guardian. This decision making will be exercised consistently with the requirements and principles of the Guardianship of Adults Act.

Currently, the Public Guardian Trustee in Alice Springs has several opportunities available for AO3 Administration Officers and AO5 Customer Service Officers. Applicants will be assessed against both levels and will be shortlisted based on their level of experience and suitability to the role.

As an Administration Officer (AO3), you provide administrative services and support to the PGT and deliver quality customer services to represented individuals and the public, including people with impaired decision-making abilities. Your key duties include undertaking financial activities in accounts payable, procurement, corporate credit cards and travel, as well as the registration of Wills and Advanced Personal Plans. You will also be required to enter and maintain accurate records of client interactions, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of official records.

To be successful you require demonstrated experience in handling administrative and financial processes, be proficient in computer literacy and data entry, have effective and responsive customer service skills combined with high levels of patience and empathy.

As a Customer Service Officer (AO5), you provide a higher level of customer service and administrative support across the functions of the PGT. This includes providing information relating to guardianship, financial and trust management, advanced personal planning, estate administration and will making services. Your key duties involve undertaking inquiries and the collection of documented evidence for adult guardianship applications, assisting in the administration of financial trusts and estates of deceased persons, and developing legal documents, including applications for guardianship, probate, letters of administration, Advanced Personal Plans and Wills.

To be successful at this level, you require knowledge and understanding of guardianship and trustee activities or can acquire knowledge quickly. Experience working with legislative frameworks, handling customer infractions sensitively and tactfully, demonstrated skills in financial and time management, and the ability to maintain accurate records is essential.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or Certificate IV (Government) Investigation, Training and Assessment or other relevant fields are desirable.

Both the AO3 and AO5 roles require well developed communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills, high level attention to detail, experience using the full range of MS Office and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

In return, you will experience a rewarding career and receive a competitive remuneration package inclusive of 11.5% superannuation, 6 weeks annual recreation and 3 weeks personal leave, 3 days Christmas closedown leave, 17.5% annual leave loading and professional development opportunities to grow your career among supportive colleagues in the public sector.

If you reside interstate, this a great time to consider relocating to Central Australia.

Alice Springs (or Mparntwe in Arrernte language) is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory, with a population of approximately 33,000 people. The Region has deep spiritual origins dating back more than 30,000 years, and an abundance of rich culture and history. The town is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including the MacDonnell Ranges and the Red Centre Desert. About 450kms down the road is Uluru, a large sandstone rock formation that is a spectacular sight any time of the year

Relocation assistance may be available to successful Customer Service Officers (AO5).
