The Media and Communications Coordinator reports to the Media Adviser and the Chief of Staff. Travel to Canberra will be required during Parliamentary sitting weeks.
This position requires a high degree of loyalty, versatility, the ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality and maintain the highest ethical standards.
The role:
Effectively convey to the Wentworth community and broader public Allegra’s integrity, policy positions, community activity and parliamentary business.
The key responsibilities of the role are, but are not limited to:
Develop a strategic media and communications plan to support the activities of the MP and track its effectiveness
Monitor, track and report on electorate issues in the media
Use design and video tools to create content for a variety of media channels, including Tik Tok, Instagram, website, YouTube
Maintain Allegra’s brand identity across all media output
Identify, research and develop news stories relating to policy platforms and the electorate
Develop stakeholder relationships with local and national publications (both online and print media)
Respond to media and social media enquiries in a timely and professional manner
Monitor issues affecting the electorate and keep the Member informed
Engage with the local community through newsletters, social media and community events
Drafting of media releases, assistance with speech writing
Prepare the Member for media events and travel to events with the Member as required, including evening and weekend engagements
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, experience and qualifications:
Excellent written communication
Excellent oral communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills
Experience in use of digital media, Google and Meta advertising
Graphic design using Canva or similar; video editing
Interest in politics, preferably with related tertiary education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Politics
Capacity to work independently, meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23 which include:
A commencing salary between $74,095 and $84,933 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
The successful applicant will be required to comply with the Draft Behaviour Standards and Code endorsed by both Houses of Parliament and may be required to undergo a National Police History check.
