About the Role
The Payroll Officer will report directly to the Group General Manager. Working closely with the HR and Finance teams, you will lead all payroll processing, reporting and compliance activities. Responsibilities include:
Payroll Processing & Compliance:
Manage end-to-end payroll for 150 employees on a fortnightly cycle.
Maintain payroll records, process leave, overtime, and salary adjustments.
Ensure compliance with Australian tax laws, superannuation, and award rates.
Optimise payroll systems, identify automation opportunities, and ensure data integrity.
Employee Support & HR Administration:
Be the first point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
Assist with employee lifecycle activities such as new hire payroll setup, employee changes and termination procedures.
Ensure compliance with awards, contracts, and Fair Work regulations.
Support HR in policy maintenance and workplace compliance checks.
Finance & Reporting
Work with Finance on payroll cost allocations and reporting.
Ensure timely superannuation and payroll tax lodgements.
Assist with financial audits, wage forecasting, and compliance reporting.
About You
To succeed in this role, you must possess:
Qualifications & Experience:
Demonstrated experience in payroll processing, finance, or HR administration.
Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, tax compliance, and superannuation.
Experience with payroll systems/software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, SAP, or similar).
Understanding of modern awards and employment regulations.
Skills & Competencies
Exceptional attention to detail - ensures 100% accuracy in payroll processing.
Strong organizational skills – able to manage multiple deadlines across different business units.
Excellent communication – able to assist employees with payroll queries in a clear and professional manner.
Problem-solving mindset – identifies and resolves payroll issues quickly.
Tech-savvy – ability to work with payroll systems, HRIS, and finance reporting tools.
Nice to haves:
Experience with multi-entity payroll processing (e.g., managing payroll for multiple business units).
Familiarity with Fair Work regulations and Australian employment awards.
Prior experience in construction, facilities, or services industries.
