About the Role

The Response Services Officer ensures the education, safety and amenity of the Sunshine Coast Community.

The Customer Response Branch provides customer focused enforcement of Council’s Local Laws and policies and relevant State legislation with an emphasis on education and self-regulation and work collaboratively as part of a multi-functional team within the Response Services Unit and across the broader Customer Response Branch and Customer Engagement & Planning Services Group.

Key duties -

· Investigate complaints and serve notices to ensure compliance with Council’s Local Laws, State Acts and Regulations and other legislation relevant to the position, relating to abandoned vehicles and vessels, animal management (cats & dogs) and livestock, footpath trading, illegal parking (not regulated), illegal camping, litter, overgrown land, signage including electoral and temporary signs, temporary events, use of public land including reserves and foreshores, vandalism and illegal vegetation removal.

· Impound as required abandoned vehicles and vessels, animals including cats, dogs and livestock found straying, illegal advertising devices and other goods and materials illegally placed on land under Council control.

· Provide professional, technical advice and support in relation to Council’s Local Laws and State legislation pertaining to animal management including, ensuring property owners comply with directions, notices or instructions issued by officers for the keeping of animals on the property.

· Make timely enquiries and gather evidence for the prosecution of offences against Council’s Local Laws, State Acts and Regulations and other legislation relevant to the position, issue and serve infringement notices and appear for Council as a witness in court.

· Undertake patrols of beaches, parks, reserves, roads and other Council controlled land for breaches of local laws and take action to resolve those breaches in accordance with Council policy.

This position is located to Sunshine Coast City Hall, based in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.

About you

As a professional in Response Services, you will have substantial relevant experience with demonstrated business acumen and ability to apply legislation, policies, standards, regulations and procedures relevant to the area of work.

You will possess strong communication and customer service skills with demonstrated ability to prepare standard business correspondence and use initiative and sound judgement to guide customers, gain information, and resolve problems often requiring tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.

You will be proficient in relevant computer software, applications, systems, databases and mobile devices.

As a requirement of this role, you will have Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Investigation and Enforcement and/or Animal Management) or equivalent relevant experience.

Pre-Employment Medical Required

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.

Criminal History Check Required

Appointment to this position is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
