Are you ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of one of Australia’s most iconic cities? The City of Gold Coast (City) is seeking a passionate and resilient Building Compliance Officer to help us ensure the Gold Coast remains a safe, sustainable, and thriving place to live, work, and play. We have a permanent and a fixed term position available. These roles are crucial in a team that values professionalism, resilience, and dedication in maintaining and delivering high standard of building compliance within our city.
What You’d Be Doing:
• Provide expert technical advice that keeps the Development Compliance running smoothly.
• Taking charge of investigations into building compliance, resolving disputes, and addressing customer concerns with professionalism and a solutions-driven mindset, whilst following established processes.
• Monitoring and managing workflows that directly impact the city’s growth and liveability.
• Inspecting buildings and construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state, and national regulations.
• Collaborate with builders, developers, and residents to foster a shared commitment to regulations.
• Investigate potential violations of regulations and work to resolve them through proactive communication and solutions-driven approaches.
• Provide expert guidance on building codes and best practices.
• Preparing detailed reports and correspondence, ensuring compliance with business processes.
• Taking enforcement action when required to uphold the integrity of the City’s regulatory role.
What We’re Looking For:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent industry experience. Previous government experience will be highly regarded.
• A strong understanding of statutory compliance, development approvals, and enforcement procedures.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, and Building Code of Australia is highly desirable.
• Someone who thrives on problem-solving and finding practical solutions to regulatory requirements.
• Someone who enjoys engaging with people and building positive relationships.
• An organised, detail-oriented and proactive person.
• Someone with the ability to prioritise and manage numerous investigations, efficiently managing timeframes of enforcement action.
• Someone committed to upholding the principles of safety, sustainability, and community growth, whilst balancing a regulatory role.
• A valid Class "C" Unrestricted Driver’s Licence.
• WHS Licence (White Card) or willing to obtain one before starting.
