Step into a newly created role that fuses behavioural psychology, cyber risk, the risk of AI proliferation and Work Health and Safety best practice (WHS) to protect 55,000 learners & staff across 3 countries.
This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Western’s Hawkesbury (Richmond) Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. Please review the position description for further information.
Mission (the “why”)
Digital acceleration introduces a range of new psychosocial and physical hazards. Our objective is to be the pioneers in engineering comprehensive safety solutions that address behaviours to mitigate cyber and technology-related incidents, thereby establishing a benchmark for eSafety within the sector.
Impact You’ll Own
- Design a comprehensive university-wide behavioural-based framework addressing critical cyber and AI use cases and associated risks; pilot, measure and iterate.
- In coordination with our IT & Digital Services (ITDS) and Cyber team, develop and implement effective programs which emphasise the importance of mental health, maintain productivity and reduce risk taking behaviours like phishing click throughs and other adverse Cyber threat related actions.
- Update current risk profiles to inform Audit & Risk Committee members using eSafety audits which involve our ITDS & Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
- Develop educational materials that demonstrate practical methods for application.
- Introduce methods for monitoring your effectiveness e.g. lead and lag tech risk related indicators.
How You’ll Work
- Cross functional squads – partner with IT, Cyber Security, HR, Organisational Development, Student Services & Research Labs in development, implementation and iteration.
- Lead by example, incorporating AI iterated solutions into workflows.
- Hybrid rhythm – 3 on campus collaboration days; deep work from anywhere for the rest.
- Agile sprints & design thinking – rapid prototyping of safety nudges and digital guardrails.
What You’ll Bring – Three Clustered Must Haves
- Technical / Digital
- Degree in Psychology / Social Science / Cyber Crime
- Working knowledge of ISO 27001 & Online Safety Act
- Hands on with behavioural analytics, phishing simulators, or SIEM tools
- Human & Leadership
- Led cross functional safety or cyber programs impacting 1,000+ users
- Storyteller who turns risk data into board ready decisions
- Builds psychological safety – 80%+ team engagement scores
- Future Ready
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or CISSP or evidence of AI safety coursework

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 8 $138,029 to $153,227 p.a. (comprising Salary of $116,636 to $129,479 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
