About the Opportunity
Are you a Sustainability Project Officer who is looking to help drive a greener and low-carbon future? This role sits within the Low Carbon and Circular Economy team and plays a key part in delivering projects and policy initiatives aligned with the City of Adelaide’s Integrated Climate Strategy and Economic Development Strategy. With a clear target to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2035, your work will help shape the future of our city.
You’ll be actively involved in accelerating the decarbonisation and retrofitting of existing buildings across the CBD and North Adelaide, supporting businesses to transition to low-carbon and circular practices. This includes identifying opportunities in energy efficiency, resource recovery, electrification, and sustainable materials. Collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders—from building owners and facility managers to government and industry bodies—you’ll help design practical, scalable solutions that deliver real impact.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute to strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery, all while monitoring progress and refining approaches to ensure we meet our ambitious goals. If you're driven by purpose, collaboration, and innovation, this is your opportunity to make a lasting difference.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience in the development, implementation and management of policy and initiatives related to building decarbonisation and environmental sustainability.
- Strong understanding of sustainable building, retrofitting and decarbonisation strategies and approaches including regulation, guidelines, technologies, and State, Federal and International examples of policies and initiatives.
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive networks, engaging with community and business stakeholders and providing high quality customer service.
- An understanding of NABERS and the Green Building Council of Australia’s building energy rating tools and methodologies is desirable.
- Ability to analyse complex, politically sensitive information and formulate measured responses.
- A commitment to internal and external customers demonstrated through the provision of timely, reliable information.
