Buyer III – Strategic Procurement | Amentum, Alice Springs

About the Role
Amentum is currently seeking a Buyer III to join our team in Alice Springs. In this senior-level procurement role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of purchase order administration – from acquisition planning and supplier negotiations through to award, post-award management, and closeout.

You’ll support strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier negotiations, and compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR/DFARS), while collaborating across functional teams. This is a key opportunity for an experienced procurement professional ready to take ownership of complex procurement requirements within a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee cradle-to-grave procurement including sourcing, cost/price analysis, contract negotiation, and closeout

Evaluate proposals, ensure compliance with procurement regulations, and drive best-value decisions

Review and process purchase requisitions and supplier bids in accordance with Amentum procedures

Maintain CPSR-compliant procurement records and support internal/external audits

Provide accurate pricing inputs to support Business Development and proposal efforts

Prepare procurement reports and manage procurement-related risks and issues

Resolve supplier disputes (e.g., over shipments, cancellations, or material issues)

Collaborate cross-functionally with Subcontracts, Finance, HR, AP, and Technical teams

Support small business engagement goals and contribute to outreach activities

Promote safety and environmental compliance across all procurement activities

Skills & Experience Required

Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of relevant procurement, subcontracts, or contract management experience
(Two years of procurement experience may be substituted per year of formal education)

At least 3 years' experience working in procurement on large-scale or government contracts

Strong commercial negotiation skills and understanding of contract types (Fixed Price, Cost-Plus, T&M)

Knowledge of procurement within Government or Defence contracting environments

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and integrated procurement systems

Familiarity with project management principles and supplier performance management

Excellent communication, attention to detail, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Current Australian Driver’s Licence
