Medical Receptionist – Casual / Part-Time / Full-Time
Wagaman Medical Centre – Darwin, NT
Wagaman Medical Centre, a newly established bulk-billing general practice in Darwin, NT, is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Medical Receptionist to join our team. We are hiring for casual, part-time, or full-time positions, covering up to 12 shifts per week, along with occasional coverage for staff leave.
Position Overview
This role is vital in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our medical practice. As the first point of contact for patients, you’ll provide exceptional customer service, manage appointments, and support our clinical staff with administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Open and close the clinic in line with established procedures
Greet patients and visitors professionally and courteously
Answer incoming calls promptly and handle inquiries effectively
Schedule patient appointments using practice software
Issue invoices/receipts and process Medicare and DVA claims
Maintain and update accurate patient records
Liaise professionally with healthcare providers, hospitals, and pharmacies
Handle prescription requests and general patient inquiries
Respond to account queries or escalate to the Practice Manager
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all privacy policies
Follow up on abnormal results as per clinic policy
Keep the reception area tidy and welcoming
Assist with general administrative duties (photocopying, mailing, filing, etc.)
Process incoming/outgoing mail and faxes
Cover shifts during staff sick leave and holidays
Perform daily batching and reconciliation of Medicare and DVA receipts
Additional Duties
Participate in team meetings and training sessions
Support general housekeeping (waiting areas, consult rooms, treatment rooms, etc.)
Comply with infection control and workplace health & safety procedures
Assist doctors and nurses with general admin support as needed

Desirable Skills & Experience
Previous experience in a medical receptionist or administration role
Familiarity with Medical Director and Pracsoft software (highly desirable)
Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Excel
Understanding of infection control and workplace health & safety standards
Other Information
Some vaccinations may be required for the role
Training and support provided
