Make an impact at Serco

You’ll be responsible for leading day-to-day kitchen operations and supporting a team in delivering high-quality catering services to Acacia Prison. You’ll work closely with the Catering Manager and oversee both staff and prisoner workers. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, structured environment.

As a Caterer in the Catering team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Supporting the Catering Manager with the daily running of the kitchen and catering department
  • Leading and training catering staff and prisoners to deliver consistent, high-quality food services
  • Managing stock levels, assets, and ensuring food safety and hygiene compliance
  • Coordinating meal preparation and timely delivery of nutritious, culturally appropriate meals
  • Ensuring vendor deliveries meet site needs and maintaining stock transparency
  • Promoting continuous improvement in catering operations and supporting quality audits

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) or equivalent trade qualification
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Head Chef in a large-scale catering operation
  • Sound knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety legislation
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills
  • Basic/intermediate computer skills and attention to detail
  • A current driver’s licence and the ability to pass relevant police and security checks
