The Women Ranger Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing Barapa Barapa’s Country management efforts, as outlined in the Barapa Barapa Nation Statement. This position will be the key liaison for

Barapa Limited policy and planning matters, working closely with stakeholders such as the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and other relevant agencies. The role will focus on fostering strong partnerships, ensuring that Barapa Limited’s values are embedded in land use planning and management decisions, and supporting programs aimed at protecting and restoring Country, particularly through Fire, Water, and Land initiatives.

Additionally, the Ranger Coordinator will oversee the Women’s Ranger Team, playing a crucial part in the Barapa Limited Cultural Values Project, and assisting in implementing key actions from Barapa Limited’s Nation Statement. The position will evolve into a mix of program and personnel management, as the team expands. The coordinator will work closely with the CEO and Board to co-design and implement the pilot program and lead the delivery of the 3–5-year strategic plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understanding of Barapa Barapa Traditional Owners, Barapa Barapa Country and Barapa Ltd on planning matters related to Country management.

Enhance DEECA’s understanding of Barapa Limited’s values, requirements, and usage, ensuring Barapa’s perspectives are integrated into state government and stakeholder planning.

Experience working with Aboriginal communities, with demonstrated ability to communicate and engage sensitively and effectively with Traditional Owner-led communities and organisations.

Ability to manage staff, with the ability to support recruitment for this project.

Advocate for including Barapa Limited’s values in broader land use planning and management initiatives.

Provide event support and host activities to promote the involvement of Barapa Barapa Traditional

Owners and Country in relevant discussions and actions.

Contributes to research that supports key strategies and goals of relevant agencies, maximising opportunities for Barapa Ltd.

Offer advice on challenges and opportunities related to Country management within Barapa Barapa’s ancestral estate.

Develop a community-driven focus area for inclusion in the refresh of Barapa Limited’s Country Plan.

Collaborate with team members and consultants to document the cultural significance of key waterways and environments from a Barapa perspective, incorporating this into Barapa Limited’s biocultural landscape database.

Prepare reports and submissions to support related projects and events.

Participate in all relevant meetings and collaborative opportunities to ensure the success of the program.

Develop work plans and provide weekly written and verbal reports on program progress.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Adhere to Barapa Limited’s Policies and Procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and relevant Victorian WorkSafe legislation.

Possess knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and the Privacy Act.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of Barapa Barapa Country and its cultural significance.

Actively participate in weekly staff planning and reporting meetings.

Engage in quarterly review and goal-setting meetings.

•Attend all mandatory meetings, training, and workshops required for the role.

Perform other duties as requested by Barapa Ltd.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, and community members.

The ability to effectively advocate for Barapa Limited’s values in influencing government policies and practices.

A genuine commitment to capacity building and promoting “Country literacy” among Barapa Limited, its Board, and the Barapa Barapa Community.

Proven ability to show initiative, supervise others, collaborate effectively, prioritise tasks, consult appropriately, and respond to direction.

Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple relationships and projects simultaneously.

Ability to work autonomously, managing day-to-day tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision.

DESIRABLE:

Proven planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to guide others in resolving moderately complex issues.

Knowledge of the regulatory framework in which Barapa Ltd operates.

Familiarity with Barapa Barapa people, their Country, culture, values, and aspirations.

Experience working with Aboriginal communities, key organisations, and stakeholder groups.

Ability to communicate and engage sensitively and effectively with Traditional Owner-led communities and organisations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

A National Police Check must be conducted or completed within the last three months.

A valid Victorian Driver’s Licence is essential, as the role involves regional and state travel for work-related purposes.

Proficiency in using computers, telecommunications technology, and GPS mapping, reporting frameworks is preferred.

A Working with Children Certificate (can be obtained after employment).

Successful completion of reference checks is required.
