KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Ranger Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Yunbenun Ranger Unit. The Ranger Coordinator is required to:

1. Consult effectively with Wulgurukaba Traditional Owner groups, diverse State and Commonwealth government agencies, the general public, the community, media organisations tourist operators and others.

2. Facilitate and support Traditional Owners in the continuity of inter-generational transfer of Aboriginal knowledge and practice.

3. Work collaboratively with other program staff to implement the effective planning, coordination and delivery of Land, Sea and Cultural Management projects of the corporation.

4. Manage a team of Indigenous-identified Rangers including:

· Ensuring that the Yunbenun Ranger Unit team is compatible

· Coordinating recruitment, performance appraisals and team management, Ranger task allocation, Unit work programs, timely submission of Ranger time sheets, all required Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) matters, and identifying and actioning Ranger training and mentoring

· Working to a suite of policies and procedures, and contributing to their periodic reviews; and

5. Succession plan to support the training and development of the Yunbenun Ranger

6. Facilitate implementation of holistic yearly work plans on program contractual obligations including (but not limited to) milestones, budgets and reporting, as agreed both externally and within the Yunbenun Ranger Unit

7. Establish and maintain Yunbenun Ranger Unit operational capacity including:

· Purchasing equipment and consumables (fuel, herbicide, etc)

· Equipment/infrastructure inventory and maintenance schedules, secured storage, insurances, registrations

· Permits and certificates (firearms, 1080, animal ethics, etc)

· Information Technology, GIS-based and other mapping including on-line mapping portals; and

· Building the Fee for service capacity and future delivery of the ranger unit

8. Develop and maintain partnerships for operational capability (ensuring collaboration and avoiding duplication) with landholders, government agencies, trainers, technical and scientific agencies.

9. Ensure that there is a reliable point of contact for the Yunbenun Ranger Unit including:

· responding to enquiries

· representing Yunbenun Rangers at public events

10. Undertake education, engagement and consultation activities including:

· consultation with Wulgurukaba Traditional Owners and Elders, the Yunbenun Rangers Working Group, Yunbenun Advisory Group, other Wulgurukaba committee’s and governance structures.

· consultation with stakeholders including land owners, investors and diverse government agencies;

· promotion of the Yunbenun Rangers Unit.

· production of cultural and natural resource/heritage management information and interpretive materials and appropriate, agreed use, distribution and coordinated installation of these materials;

· Junior Rangers activities, school visits or excursions.

· delivering against existing endorsed plans developed by Wulgurukaba Traditional Owners and Elders, the Yunbenun Rangers Working Group, Yunbenun Advisory Group, other Wulgurukaba committee’s and governance structures.

· engaging in and supporting periodic review, revision or re-development of any existing plans; and

· Supporting the progressive development of successive or new plans to guide the work of the Unit.

11. Lead the Yunbenun Rangers in cultural and natural resource/heritage management including:

· pest weed and feral animal control

· fire management

· sustainable visitor management

· restoring habitat for native species (e.g. fencing to protect areas, stopping erosion, revegetation)

· undertaking species surveying

· water quality testing and improvement

· monitoring and mapping threats to country (e.g., feral animal damage, damage to cultural sites)

· supporting Elders to undertake cultural activities on country including organising ceremonies and working closely with the respective Wulgurukaba Governance structures

12. Responsibility for data and information collection and management including:

· Maps, GPS weigh points, staff files, species lists, video and photos, consent forms etc.

13. Practical aptitude for technical manual tasks and a demonstrated ability to pass skills on to others.

14. Encourage and support the participation of women in all ranger activities, ensuring culturally appropriate engagement and safety.

15. Promote an inclusive team culture that respects and upholds the voices, perspectives, and knowledge of women, particularly in relation to traditional knowledge, caring for Country, and cultural heritage practices.

16. Liaise with female Traditional Owners and Elders to ensure that gender-specific cultural protocols are acknowledged and incorporated into the daily work plan.

17. Support the development of women-focused initiatives, such as school-based engagement with young women, mentorship opportunities, and culturally safe learning environments for women on Country.

The Yunbenun Ranger Program aims to be a role model in gender inclusion, ensuring that women have equal opportunity to lead, contribute, and thrive in the conservation and cultural management of Wulgurukaba Country.

The successful candidate will be required to respect Wulgurukaba established and/or emergent Traditional Cultural protocols whilst planning or delivering Yunbenun Ranger activities on land and sea country.
