Founded on one of the world’s richest goldfields, Bendigo is a vibrant regional city with a strong arts, culture and food scene. A not-for-profit organisation, BHA is responsible for the management of Bendigo’s leading heritage tourist attractions: Central Deborah Gold Mine, Bendigo Tramways and the Bendigo Joss House Temple. In addition to tourist operations, BHA also runs a successful manufacturing arm at the Bendigo Tramways Workshop, undertaking tram restoration and repurposing projects for a range of clients.
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and engaging individuals to join our team as Visitor Services Officer / Tour Guide across Bendigo Heritage Attractions (BHA) sites, including Central Deborah Gold Mine. This duel roles is integral to delivering positive and memorable experiences for all visitors.
To be successful you must have:
· Provide excellent, efficient, and friendly customer service to all visitors.
· Support the retail gift shop, by assisting in the presentation of merchandise, pricing stock, store layout, and advising of stock levels.
· Operate an on-line booking and POS system, EFTPOS and cash handling.
· Comply with Food Safety and OHS compliance operations.
· Successfully prepare and sell food and beverages, tour products and merchandise.
· Assist with the successful delivery of aligned projects, tours & functions.
· Ensure customer service is focused on providing an enjoyable and memorable experience.
· Be able to competently conduct all tours at Central Deborah Goldmine using provided content
· Maintain a professional, accurate and informative presentation for each mine tour.
· Develop a understanding of Central Deborah Mine and BHA products and Services
· Work effectively as part of a team.
· Other duties within training and competencies as required.
Our ideal candidate will have:
Excellent verbal communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate and engage with diverse individuals of all ages, cultures, abilities, and non-English speakers.
A good, cooperative team member and the ability to work unsupervised.
Good basic computer skills – MS Word and Excel, SharePoint, email, and internet.
Experience in hospitality and customer service.
Ability to be rostered on weekends, school holidays and public holidays is essential
Excellent customer service skills: Ability to develop rapport with a range of people.
Effectively organise and manage groups of all ages and backgrounds.
Sound time management ability including being able to modify tasks to overcome unexpected delays.
Ability to follow procedures accurately, effectively, and efficiently.
Ability to keep calm and work under pressure in varying conditions.
Ability to manage emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Good level of fitness and stamina.
A genuine interest in mining in Bendigo and local history
Good knowledge of Bendigo, its history, attractions, and heritage assets.
Availability to work weekends, school holidays and public holidays is essential.
All Bendigo Heritage Attractions employees and volunteers are required to have a valid Working with Children Check.
