ABOUT US:

Australian Veteran Health Services is a unique, multi-disciplinary medical service designed to assist former and current Defence personnel plan their transition from military to civilian life. Established by Veterans for Veterans, we aim to complement established medical and ex-service organisations by assisting with DVA Claims, Permanent Impairment Assessments, Veteran Review Board (VRB) reports and ADF Transition Medicals.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, our Senior Operations Manager will hold a key leadership position responsible for the day-to-day operations of the business. This is your opportunity to make a real difference—guiding strategic design and growth, shaping operational performance, and building a culture grounded in collaboration, innovation, and care. You will utilise your clinical expertise to maintain clinical input into operations and provide leadership around complex cases. This role will identify and implement systems, policies, and processes to improve operational excellence, accountability, and growth across AVHS.

ABOUT YOU:

With a clinical background you will be an expert operational leader, mentoring teams and driving success. With strong interpersonal and communication skills, you’ll be approachable and trustworthy. This role is designed to strengthen operational outcomes, lead coaching and mentoring initiatives, and support the implementation of key quality improvement activities and compliance. High-level stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as we have many moving parts in delivering support to the veteran community.

Key Responsibilities

Drive a culture that aligns with AVHS Values and Code of Conduct.

Use clinical and management knowledge to optimise operational efficiency for access and flow initiatives across the business.

Work closely with senior leaders to prioritise, plan, and roadmap key initiatives and projects across AVHS.

Collaborate with the executive team to ensure transparency and alignment between inter-organisational processes.

Identify and implement service improvements and opportunities for growth and expansion.

Ensure conformance with policies, procedures, and processes to mitigate issues and address non-conformance.

Lead performance management and leadership initiatives across operational team.

Selection Criteria

Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a clinician.

Demonstrated experience in operational leadership and management within a healthcare setting.

Proven ability to successfully manage and support multidisciplinary teams.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

Ability to work autonomously and make decisions under pressure.

Strategic thinker with strong operational management skills.

Experience in driving change, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Desirable

Experience in Medico-legal report writing or occupational medicine

Experience in veteran health or military-related services.
