Your Opportunity

As the Operations Manager you will:

  • Support educational delivery through the provision of efficient and effective housekeeping and maintenance services; and
  • Provide leadership and day to day management of the Operations business unit, agency staff and private contractors across a broad range of functional areas.

This position is a Permanent, Full-time opportunity based primarily at Acacia Ridge, reporting to the Manager Infrastructure and Operations, though you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

  • Manage operations staff, agency staff and private contractors across a range of functional areas, including but not limited to:
  • Provide a high standard of support services to educational delivery teams through the efficient management of resources and budgets and the implementation of effective risk assessment strategies. Manage an operational budget, including active participation in budget planning cycles in consultation with the Director, People, Culture and Operations and the maintenance of appropriate administrative records to ensure the accurate forecasting of operational expenditure including the procurement of equipment and resources.
  • Lead, manage and develop a high performing Operations team, working collaboratively with the Manager Infrastructure and Operations, and Director People, Culture and Operations to ensure that services are aligned to Region strategic, commercial and business performance objectives and that human resource management issues are addressed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders with respect to the formulation, implementation and ongoing management of relocation programs to facilitate the transfer and consolidation of staff and trade delivery across TAFE Queensland SkillsTech training centres, including participation in committees and networks within the Region and across TAFE Queensland, as required.
  • Facilitate staff training programs as required, ensuring Region staff are appropriately trained in the use and maintenance of plant, equipment, hazardous substances and other materials.
  • Identify, manage and report on risks across TAFE Queensland SkillsTech campuses in accordance with Region and TAFE Queensland wide risk reporting and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance to all policy and statutory requirements with respect to health and safety by providing assistance in emergent situations; undertaking, or participating in, periodic audits with regards to a range of matters, including but not limited to facilities utilisation, health and safety and environmental issues, investigating concerns raised and providing high quality and detailed reports to the Manager, Infrastructure and Operations.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous business improvement through the development and maintenance of quality system procedures and documentation as they relate to facilities and operations management.
  • Contribute to the success of cultural change within the organisation through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values of Safety First, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer, Showing Initiative and Taking Responsibility.
  • Work with management to plan and coordinate minor and capital works projects consistent with TAFE Queensland identified priorities and project scoping, acting as the primary liaison point for the campus.
  • Contribute to the contract management function through the preparation of draft proposals, and monitoring assigned contracts to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Proactively participate in local Individual Planning development (IP) processes, recognising and addressing opportunities to improve performance, seeking opportunities for self-development and contributing to the development of the broader Operations portfolio through knowledge sharing and the provision of support, guidance and collaboration.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  1. High level knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures relevant to the facilities and operations management of a complex and diverse organisation and a proven ability in developing and applying appropriate practices and strategies to facilitate successful outcomes for the organisation.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to effectively develop, lead and manage a multi-disciplinary facilities and operations team.
  3. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects with competing priorities, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard within negotiated timeframes.
  4. Demonstrated ability to support a positive working environment by establishing rapport with internal and external clients; communicating, consulting and negotiating effectively, and working constructively with team members and other Region employees at all levels.
  5. Displays flexibility and responsiveness and has the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working a facilities management supervisory role.
  • Current first aid accreditation.
  • Chief Warden/Warden roles previously undertaken would be beneficial.
