Business Improvement Specialist to provide business improvement expertise across the business to identify, drive, and embed business improvement.
Our client is a great South Australian State Government administration seeking Business Improvement Specialist on a 6 or 12 month hourly rate to provide business improvement expertise across the business to identify, drive, and embed business improvement mindset alongside enhancing business outcomes.
- 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week
- Adelaide CBD locations (2 days WFH allowed)
- Adelaide based candidates only. This role requires the candidate to be in the office ideally on 3 days from office and 2 days from home arrangement.
- $80 per hour base plus 11% superannuation on an hourly rate contract, 37.5 hours (15% casual loading included). The rate of pay is aligned with skills, experience, or expertise.
- State Government Administration industry award entitlements including penalty rates, overtime and allowances and superannuation.
Main accountabilities and responsibilities
- Lead problem solving sessions as an improvement practitioner - working closely with bespoke teams to support any process improvement requirements as they arise.
- Use structured problem-solving techniques to clearly define the problem, reach agreement on the success criteria with the initiative sponsor, scoping of improvement initiative, sign-off from the initiative sponsor and managing the implementation plan.
- Identifying and quantifying benefits for improvement initiatives (before vs after)
- Defining and sourcing relevant data to enable ongoing measurement and reporting on progress towards benefits realisation.
- Ensure delivery of both soft savings as well as quantifiable savings (KPI impact, financial impact)
- independently facilitate improvement workshops
- Delivering status updates and initiative completion reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Identify inefficient or ineffective processes across the business and support others in doing so
- Ability to undertake end to end process discovery.
- Process workshopping and analysis with cross-functional stakeholders
- Ability to articulate current state situation and collaboratively identify opportunities for designing the improved future state.
- Undertake SILO improvement initiatives as well as end to end value stream improvements.
- Implement value stream thinking by clearly identifying and translating the customer and business requirements
- Ability to undertake end to end process discovery.
- Process workshopping and analysis with cross-functional stakeholders
- Ability to articulate current state situation and collaboratively identify opportunities for designing the improved future state.

Expected skills and experience
Have obtained or be working towards Accreditation in recognised process improvement methodology
- Experience in applying Project management philosophy and leading several projects through influencing and engaging senior stakeholders to uncover current state, designing, and building future state and assisting with the training and induction of project team members on process improvement tools used.
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to build and maintain strong relationships quickly with a diverse range of stakeholders, including an ability to collaborate and influence to meet business objectives and deliver an improved customer experience
- i.e. Six Sigma or Lean certified (Minimum green belt from an accredited training institute).
- Understanding and prior application of applicable Change Management methodologies (ADKAR, Jon Kotter's 8 Step process etc) and experience using change management techniques in whirlwind environment.
- Understand a functional area/process, its interdependencies with other areas/processes and how it fits into the overall system/business.
- Hold two or more competing ideas or logical arguments at the same time and understand their validity, with the ability to argue for and against either and be comfortable doing so in a public forum.
- Experience with data analysis, facilitating process improvement workshops (Lean concepts), and process re-engineering.
- MS Office Suite skills
Additional information
- Flexible hours and some after hours as required, some intra and interstate travel.
- To ensure your safety in performing the inherent requirements of the role, you will be required to undergo initial and subsequent medical clearances in addition to some immunisations as relevant to your position.
- Depending on the role you will be required to undergo initial and/or subsequent clearance checks to ensure your ongoing suitability for the role. These may include a criminal police check, traffic check, Working with Children and/or Working with Vulnerable People.
