As specialist Government recruitment experts with over 30 years experience, Osborne Richardson is working with local councils across Victoria to offer various Local Laws Officer positions.
Local Laws Officers are responsible for responding to community concerns, investigating complaints and gaining compliance with council's Local Laws and State Government Acts and Regulations, focusing predominately on domestic animal management, prevention of animal cruelty, local laws, amenity and safety, parking and litter enforcement.
Typical duties include:
Informing and educating the community on issues relating to enforcement of Local Laws and Animal Management services in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policy.
Investigating animal complaints, including but not limited to, dog attacks, barking dog complaints, impounding of livestock and other animal related matters.
Collecting evidence, obtaining statements, conducting interviews and preparing informative and thorough court briefs and providing technical advice when required relating to investigations to achieve successful prosecutions at Court.
Reporting damage to Council assets, including damaged signs, incidents of graffiti etc.
Conducting regular park patrols to ensure compliance with relevant signs as required.
What we ask of you:
Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and ability to accurately interpret Acts, Regulations and Local Laws.
Demonstrated experience in animal management, management, justice administration, public administration, law enforcement, customer service or other related fields.
Proficiency in the application of law enforcement procedures, including interviewing techniques, evidence collection, note taking and preparation of reports.
Current Victorian drivers licence and satisfactory pre-employment checks.
Desirable - completion of an industry recognised course in animal management, enforcement, local laws, justice or similar.
