The Opportunity
We’re looking for a passionate Cultural Advisor to help shape how we support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities at Youturn.
Reporting to our GM of People and Performance, you’ll be our go-to expert for cultural insight and guidance, ensuring our people and programs are grounded in culturally safe, respectful, and empowering practices. Your leadership will directly shape initiatives that build cultural capability across our workforce and improve mental health outcomes for the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities
Lead cultural capability initiatives across Youturn by designing and delivering education, training, and awareness programs for staff at all levels.
Support and drive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander - focused projects, ensuring they align with strategic goals and deliver positive outcomes for clients and staff.
Strengthen service accessibility by reviewing and improving pathways and resources to better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Partner with community, build and maintain strong relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, and support organisations to ensure services remain culturally relevant and respectful.
Promote workforce inclusion by contributing to strategies that attract, support, and retain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, including mentoring, entry pathways, and culturally safe work environments.
Advise and consult across Youturn on culturally appropriate practices, communication, and protocols to ensure programs and services reflect cultural safety and respect.
Monitor and report on progress, sharing insights and recommendations on cultural initiatives, workforce development, and project outcomes.
Facilitate community engagement and feedback loops to inform continuous improvement and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices in shaping Youturn’s services.
Essential Experience, Qualifications & Other Requirements
Solid knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies from a historical and contemporary perspective. You will also recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and be able to consult in accordance with cultural protocols where required.
Comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues and knowledge and understanding of national and state policies and strategies which aim to close the gap in outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
People with qualifications and/or experience in providing education and/or training sessions would be well regarded.
Valid Queensland ‘C' class drivers’ licence or equivalent
Selection Criteria
High-level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively and sensitively with both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous staff.
Proven ability to consult and negotiate in line with cultural protocols and community expectations.
Project management skills, including planning, delivery and evaluation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate mentoring programs and build strong relationships using cultural expertise and leadership.
Clear understanding of cultural protocols, relevant legislation, and codes of practice that guide culturally safe service delivery.
