SQL Database Administrator

• Location: Sydney/Melbourne
• Pay Rate: $800 per day including
• Assignment Length: Anticipated 6 months with potential to extend

Key Responsibilities

• Install, upgrade, migrate, and administer Microsoft SQL Server environments
• Build databases using best practices and standard processes for projects
• Implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies (especially Always-On Availability Groups)
• Design and implement database security, including TDE and end-to-end encryption
• Support SQL Server in hybrid environments (Azure ↔ On-prem)
• Optimise performance through query tuning, indexing, partitioning, compression, and statistics
• Work with development teams to ensure database performance is maintained at scale
• Automate routine database tasks to improve efficiency
• Document configurations, standards, and procedures
• Contribute to service continuity and disaster recovery planning
• Occasionally backfill for BAU team members as needed

Skills & Experience Required

• 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server in complex, enterprise-level environments
• Strong skills in performance tuning, index optimisation, query plans, and database health
• Experience with table partitioning, data compression, and SQL Server replication
• Hands-on knowledge of SQL Server in Windows clustered and AAG environments
• Strong grasp of backup/recovery in complex AAG setups
• Working experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
• Familiarity with database security best practices and policies
• Good understanding of operating systems, particularly Windows Server
• Experience with automation and scripting for database management
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Oracle DBA knowledge is a plus but not essential
