Product Designer
About us

At UPowr, we believe in a world powered by clean energy, and we’re here to electrify the future—faster.

Our platform is mission control for companies selling, installing, and managing solar, batteries, EV chargers, and other clean energy assets. We’re building the digital infrastructure for the energy transition—and we’re looking for brilliant, talented people to help bring our vision to life and pave the way for international expansion.

About the role

We’re a fast-moving startup shaping a more sustainable future. That means we move quickly, iterate often, and embrace the unknown. You’ll thrive here if you're energized by ownership, curious about our users, and excited to help define what great design looks like in a growing team.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

Work collaboratively – You’ll work closely with engineers, product owners, and other designers in small, empowered teams. Knowing how and when to bring others in—and how to get alignment—will be key.

Drive projects forward – We use a process inspired by Basecamp’s Shape Up. You’ll lead the full design process within your squad, from shaping and ideation to execution and delivery. You’ll bring clarity to the ambiguous and momentum to the messy.

Communicate clearly – Whether you're exploring a concept, walking through a tradeoff, or sharing research insights, you’ll help others see what you see—and bring them along for the journey.

Go from research to insight – Our users include solar retailers, installers, and homeowners. You’ll uncover their needs and turn those into actionable insights that inform everything from quick wins to strategic bets.

Define our look and feel – Your UI craft is as strong as your UX thinking. You’ll evolve and implement our design system, and help ensure everything we ship looks and feels like UPowr.

As an early design hire, you’ll also help us shape our ways of working and raise the bar for design across the company.

What success looks like in your first 6–12 months

You’ve launched high-impact design work that improved usability and delight.

You’ve helped your product team move faster and smarter through clarity and craft.

You’ve brought user insight to product conversations—and helped others do the same.

You’ve helped evolve our design system in a way that scales with the company.

You’ve contributed positively to the design culture: thoughtful, curious, and kind.

About you

You're a product designer who balances systems thinking with a bias for action. You’re curious, adaptable, and motivated by work that matters.

You’ll likely have:

5+ years of experience designing for desktop and mobile

A portfolio that shows your product thinking, process, and polish

A strong grasp of user-centered design principles and best practices

Experience planning and conducting research (or collaborating on it)

A passion for clean energy and creating a better future

Even better, you may also have:

Designed enterprise-grade SaaS products

Worked in or adjacent to the energy industry

Familiarity with front-end development (enough to speak dev)

And if you don’t check every box—please still apply. We value talent, potential, and mindset over pedigree.

Why join UPowr?

We offer a highly flexible work environment with a blend of remote and in-person options to support your ideal way of working. Choose to work from home, or from one of our coworking spaces—whatever suits your rhythm.

At UPowr, there are no ceilings or politics—just opportunities. If you’re driven by impact, love learning, and want your work to matter, we’d love to meet you.

How to apply

Send us your portfolio and a short note about yourself to [email protected]. Tell us what’s led you here, and why this role feels like the right next step.

Please also share the pronouns you use, and let us know of any adjustments you may need during the interview process—we’ll do our best to support you.

🕒 Applications close Sunday 4 May at 8pm AESDT – but we recommend applying early, as we’ll begin reviewing applications from Monday 28 April.
