THE ROLE

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is hard working and driven Cleaner and Laundry Assistant to become a part of our team, for an immediate start.

Permanent Part Time (Term Time)

55 hours per fortnight

Monday to Friday

4.30am to 10.30am

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cleaner’s core responsibility, under the direction of the Cleaning Manager and the Facilities and Services Manager, is to:

ensure a clean, hygienic and safe environment for staff and students, including areas such as the classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, offices, and communal areas such as stairs, corridors and landings;

ensure that high standards of cleanliness are delivered at all times;

attend training and professional development as directed by the School;

ensure adherence to workplace health and safety procedures and policies related to the safe use of cleaning chemicals and monitor and report on the safety of equipment to the Facilitates and Services Manager or other authorised personnel, when required; and

be aware of the emergency/fire procedures and be responsible for designated duties in the event of an emergency.

The Laundry assistants responsibilities, under the direction of the Cleaning Manager and the Facilities and Services Manager, is to:

operate washing machines, dryers, and other laundry equipment;

report any issues or malfunctions with laundry equipment to the Cleaning Manager;

regularly check and clean laundry equipment, such as washing machines, dryers, and ironing stations, to ensure proper functioning and prevent breakdowns;

measure and add detergents, bleach, fabric softeners, and other laundry aids;

fold clothes, linens, and other items;

dry and fold laundry efficiently, ensuring all items are returned to students in a timely manner;

follow up un-labelled clothing items from boarding students;

maintain the cleanliness of the laundry facilities and ensure that equipment is in good working order;

maintain an organised laundry area, ensuring that all equipment, detergents, and laundry supplies are stocked and properly stored adhering to all safety and hygiene regulations;

ensure the laundry area is kept clean, safe, and free from hazards, and ensure that all laundry items are sanitized properly;

adhere to health and safety protocols, including proper storage of cleaning agents and personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling laundry chemicals;

report any malfunctions or problems with the laundry equipment to your line manager and complete the relevant documents;

ensure laundry is handled with care to prevent damage or loss of items;

log and report any lost or damaged items to supervisors in a timely manner; and

assist with any additional housekeeping or cleaning duties as required, especially during busy times such as school holidays, events, or when large quantities of laundry need attention.

OTHER DUTIES

Drive boarding students to and from appointments as required.

Attend Professional Development as required.

Promote the interests of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.

Serve the School diligently and faithfully.

Any other duties as may reasonably be directed by the Cleaning Manager and/or Facilities and Services Manager.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

A proven capacity to work effectively within a team environment and independently.

Previous experience in, or a sound knowledge of, the cleaning demands and requirements of a boarding school environment or similar educational environment would be a distinct advantage.

An ability to be flexible and adaptable and to make sound judgments and decisions.

Excellent organisational and time management skills and a demonstrated capacity to meet cleaning deadlines.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, including adolescents.

An ability to select suitable methods for completing tasks and plan the order in which they are to be completed so they complement the day-to-day operation of the catering department.

The ability to work as rostered.

Strong organisational and time-management skills.

Attention to detail and commitment to quality service.

Physical stamina to manage repetitive tasks and handle heavy loads when necessary.

Knowledge of laundry products and cleaning techniques, particularly for delicate fabrics.

A willingness to implement and uphold the values of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.

Ability to motivate and sustain the motivation of others.

Emotional resilience and conflict management skills.

High level of time management and ability to multitask.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or have the ability to obtain one.
