Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Supervising Scientific/Technical Officer (Anatomy & Physiology) to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Health.

The Supervising Scientific/Technical Officer provides technical expertise within a highly professional technical team in support of the Faculty’s academic endeavours. The role is responsible for the effective, safe and sustainable operation of a range of laboratory facilities and specialist equipment, with a strong focus on anatomy, physiology and medical imaging. The role requires significant discipline specific knowledge to engage with and provide high quality technical support to academics and students within relevant disciplines. The incumbent will maintain awareness of current and emerging support requirements and will contribute to the continual improvement of technical services supporting the Faculty’s Learning and Teaching and Research programs.

The proximity of the Kelvin Grove campus to hospital facilities at Herston provides the faculty with a distinct competitive advantage and a renowned precinct that offers transformative education, aligned biomedical research and industry engagement. Technical services is a highly professional team providing specialist technical expertise to support teaching and research across all schools within the Faculty. The team are responsible for the effective, safe and sustainable operation of a range of teaching and research facilities and specialist equipment across both campuses..

What you need to succeed

  1. Completion of a degree or a higher degree with at least four years’ subsequent relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training involving laboratory operations in anatomy and physiology, medical radiation and imaging or related biomedical sciences.
  2. Demonstrated high level communication skills (including written and verbal) and flexibility to work across projects and to collaborate and develop effective relationships with multiple programs and stakeholders.
  3. Demonstrated ability to nurture and lead a high-performing, collaborative team committed to continuous improvement and which actively works to understand and meet stakeholder requirements.
  4. Demonstrated problem identification and resolution skills, including ability to implement desired outcomes to timely completion in a complex environment with competing demands.
  5. Demonstrated ability to support delivery of projects within agreed timeframes and resource constraints (including assistance with scoping, planning, delivery and post-implementation review).
  6. Demonstrated experience or capacity for working with human donor material with appropriate care and respect and an understanding of the compliance conditions of the Transplantation and Anatomy Act and Regulation (Qld) and Schools of Anatomy in a teaching or research setting.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of health, safety and environment principles and commitment to compliance and safety at both strategic and operational levels.
