With a strong reputation for precision, reliability, and safety, we are expanding our team and seeking a Workshop Manager to lead our fabrication operations.
Position Overview:
The Workshop Manager will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations in the fabrication workshop, ensuring productivity, quality control, safety compliance, and workflow efficiency. You will lead a team of fabricators, welders, and support staff to meet production targets and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the planning and execution of all workshop fabrication activities.
Allocate workloads and labour hours for processing, fabrication, welding, and dispatch.
Prepare and distribute work packs and fabrication drawings to teams.
Monitor production schedules and control sheets to track progress against project timelines.
Conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and welding standards.
Coordinate material handling, surface treatment, and truck load-outs.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in line with WHS policies.
Liaise with project managers, site supervisors, and the drawing office to align workshop outputs with site requirements.
Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to workshop staff.
Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance workshop efficiency.
Ensure all plant and equipment are maintained and inspected regularly.
Skills and Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in structural steel fabrication, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Strong understanding of fabrication workflows, steel detailing, and workshop production.
Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings.
Excellent people management and team leadership skills.
Strong communication and coordination abilities.
Sound knowledge of WHS and quality assurance systems.
Forklift licence, EWP, and dogman or rigging tickets advantageous.
Trade qualification in fabrication/boilermaking or related field preferred.
