About the Department

About the Division
The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is part of the Department of Education. Established in 2016, it oversees Victoria's largest school building program since the state introduced free public education in the 1870s.
The VSBA delivers on three key priorities:
- to build and expand the schools and early childhood services Victoria needs for its rapidly growing population
- to reform how we maintain and modernise school buildings and grounds
- to engage local communities, giving them more say and keeping them better informed about new schools and major upgrades.
Our goal is to make every interaction with the VSBA a positive one for our customers, colleagues and key partners regardless of our individual role or team.
Asset Management Division
The Asset Management Division is responsible for setting VSBA's strategic asset direction, developing and implementing programs that address accessibility, inclusion and accommodation initiatives, and building school capability and capacity to manage assets.
The Maintenance Delivery Branch oversees maintenance projects, encompassing planned maintenance, as well as the upkeep of hydraulic fire safety systems and shelter-in-place facilities and other programs. Additionally, it ensures that secondary school campuses are equipped with suitable facilities to accommodate mental health practitioners, aligning with the government's commitment for this program.
About the Role
This role is located in the Commercial and Programs Unit; Maintenance Delivery Branch; Asset Management Division, and will facilitate and support the Unit's fulfilment of its responsibilities and commitment to:
- development of timely and detailed reporting on complex projects and programs,
- meaningful and collaborative engagement with key internal and external stakeholders,
- continual improvement of work processes and culture,
- compliance with ministerial directions,
- implementation of assurance program outcomes and approved recommendations,
- VSBA's operational and strategic goals.
Capabilities
The candidate must have experience in:
- analysis/audit, curation, and visual communication of operational and financial data
- database management systems and data querying languages
- clear communication of complex analytics
- business reports and documentation related to data analytics processes and systems guidance
- developing comprehensive reports to provide actionable information for decision-makers
- and a strong level of ability to understand stakeholder requirements and translate them into actionable data solutions
- analytics and problem-solving to address complex data-related issues
The key responsibilities of this role are to:
- model and uphold department values
- effectively communicate data analytics, reporting, and insights to leadership groups
- develop and implement business reports, data analytics processes, and systems guidance documentation
- review and audit large financial and operational data sets
- identify actionable opportunities for value creation and process improvement
- develop and champion expertise in software systems from which business data is sourced
- respond to ad hoc data requests, working with systems and stakeholders to extract, source and collate data
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- A relevant degree in fields such as accounting, finance, actuarial science, data science, business analytics, or statistics.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.
Advanced proficiency in data analytics tools for data visualization and reporting.
