Position Overview:
Our client, a prestigious national law firm located in the heart of Melbourne CBD, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Officer to join their dynamic finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with a strong background in accounting, who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will support the firm's financial operations by managing daily accounting tasks and ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process and maintain accurate records of all accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring timely payments and collections.
Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements and financial records, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
Billing and Invoicing: Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with billing cycles, assisting legal teams with billing queries and adjustments.
General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and updating the general ledger, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, supporting senior finance team members in audits and internal reviews.
Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal financial policies. Assist with the preparation of reports for internal and external audits.
Expense Management: Monitor and manage firm expenses, ensuring proper documentation and approvals for all expenditures.
System Management: Utilize accounting software to input financial data, monitor trends, and generate reports, with an emphasis on improving efficiency and accuracy.
Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the finance department, including filing, responding to inquiries, and assisting with other ad-hoc tasks as needed.
- Trust Accounts: Reconciliation of trust accounts, Client Transactions and Fund Transfers
Skills & Experience:
Experience: Proven experience (2+ years) in an accounting role, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Software Proficiency: Experience with accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, or similar), and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, staff, and vendors.
Time Management: Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing individual responsibilities.
