About us

NSW Fencing – accelerating the Olympic sport of fencing

NSW Fencing Association Inc (NSW Fencing) governs all aspects of the sport across the state, championing a holistic approach that emphasises participation, performance, and personal well-being.

Fencing is a unique sport that attracts diverse athletes and is a sport for life. NSW Fencing values this diversity as a strength of the sport and the sporting community. Fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity, NSW Fencing aims to support individuals at all levels—from recreational to elite athletes—to achieve their personal best.

NSW Fencing was established in 1932 and has nurtured the sport from small beginnings to having athletes compete in the Olympic Games.

The role

NSW Fencing is seeking a collaborative and highly organised Sports Co-ordinator to develop and expand inclusive fencing programmes across NSW by managing the delivery of the state tournament schedule and other events as well as the day-to-day administration.

After a major restructure of the organisation in 2024, this is a new role that reflects the growth and strength of the evolved association. For the 12 month contract period, this encompasses a total of 660 hours or 0.37 FTE.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of all sporting activities while fostering engagement with stakeholders, volunteers, and the wider community.

If you have a passion for programme development, sport on all levels, and inclusion, this is your opportunity to drive change and create significant opportunities for fencing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver all aspects of state tournaments, support national tournaments, and other events, ensuring efficient scheduling and smooth execution.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, including athletes, coaches, tournament officials, and volunteers, with clear communication and collaboration.
  • Engage with clubs and schools to promote participation
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and child protection regulations, maintaining a safe environment for all participants.
  • Support participants, volunteers, tournament officials, and families, to ensure a welcoming and inclusive experience.
  • Handle administrative duties such as venue bookings, rostering officials, coordinating volunteers, record-keeping, reporting, and liaising with relevant authorities.
  • Provide regular reports to the Board on program performance and key operational matters.

Essential requirements:

  • A passion for the Olympic sport of fencing and community engagement.
  • A background in Sports Management, Physical Education, Event Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience) and proven experience in sports administration, event management, or a similar role.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the aptitude to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with volunteers, staff, board members, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office / Google Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail)
  • Alignment with the purpose and values of the organisation.
  • A current Working with Children Check.
  • Child protection training or willingness to undertake this.
  • First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • A valid driver license and reliable transport.
  • Full working rights in Australia.
  • Ability to work flexibly with additional hours on tournament weekends and key events.

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience working within a sporting organisation or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of competition management software and event registration platforms, namely TidyHQ, Deputy, and Fencing Time
  • Experience as a Directoire Technique (DT)
  • Experience in volunteer coordination and community engagement.

Why join us?

  • Opportunity to work with a passionate team dedicated to growing the sport across New South Wales
  • A dynamic role with a mix of hands-on event coordination and organisational planning.
