Yarra City Council is seeking a motivated and creative Youth Development Officer to join our team of dedicated Youth Workers.
The Richmond Youth Hub is a vital, youth-led safe space located at the North Richmond public housing estate. Co-designed with and for young residents, the Hub's primary mission is to foster social connection, enhance wellbeing, and create positive pathways for culturally and linguistically diverse young people aged 8 to 25. It serves as a vibrant community centre where young people can relax, build friendships, and access a range of integrated support services and creative programs, empowering them to pursue their aspirations and become leaders within their community.
A core part of this role is direct consultation with young people to co-design and deliver engaging programs during both school terms and holiday periods. You will be responsible for ensuring these youth-led initiatives meet the specific needs of participants while aligning with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) funding framework, the Yarra City Council plan, and budgetary requirements.
In this role, you'll play a key role in:
Creating a safe and engaging space for young people (aged 8-25) at the Richmond Youth Hub.
Developing and delivering exciting programs and activities based on their needs and interests.
Empowering young people to have a voice in the community and co-design programs with them.
Building strong relationships with young people, schools, and community groups.
Providing young people with information and referrals to relevant services.
We're looking for someone who:
Is available to work Monday - Friday with varying shifts between 9am - 7pm.
Has a passion for youth work and a strong understanding of youth participation principles.
Has experience developing and delivering innovative youth programs.
Is knowledgeable about the issues facing young people in Yarra.
Can build positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
