About the team

We're entering a new chapter for the Chief Technology Office at the City of Gold Coast as we deliver bold, future-focused solutions. With the launch of our IT Operating Model and the transition of critical IT services in-house, we are transforming the way we deliver technology—making it faster, more responsive, and more aligned with the needs of our organisation and customers.

As part of this transformation, we're hiring multiple new positions. These roles are key to shaping a vibrant and forward-thinking Chief Technology Office—one that adds real value, delivers better outcomes, and works in smarter, more agile ways.

If you’re equally excited about innovation, transformation, and making a meaningful impact, now is the perfect time to join us.

About your new role

As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll play an important role in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and highly available cloud and on-premises infrastructure. You’ll support patching, lifecycle management, and disaster recovery (DR), while enabling automation, integration, and performance optimisation across hybrid environments.

Working under limited supervision from the Coordinator Cloud Platforms and Development, you’ll collaborate closely with developers, architects, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth cloud adoption and operation.

Key responsibilities:

Design and build cloud and hybrid infrastructure solutions tailored to business needs, emphasising scalability, availability, and security.

Automate provisioning and deployment using tools such as BICEP, Terraform, or Ansible.

Configure and optimise Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Cost Management tools.

Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability.

Perform regular patching and updates for Azure VMs, VMware-based on-prem servers, and associated infrastructure.

Review and test DR plans for Azure and on-prem workloads to meet organisational continuity standards.

Implement and maintain cloud security best practices, including IAM, encryption, and backups.

Optimise cloud spend using native or third-party tools and Azure Advisor recommendations.

Produce clear and up-to-date documentation of configurations, policies, and procedures.

Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (or similar Azure certification) would be considered highly desirable

Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer (or equivalent certification) would be considered highly desirable

Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) would be considered highly desirable

Proven experience in designing and supporting Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Strong understanding of automation, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code (BICEP, Terraform, Ansible).
