Indie Education is seeking a Head of School for our Burnie campus. The successful applicant will oversee the establishment of Indie School Burnie, including its teaching and learning programs, compliance requirements and staffing.

Indie School Burnie will join the other Indie School campuses across the nation in providing young people with an opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment, using individual plans tailored to their needs. Our strengths-based approach, smaller class sizes and skilled staff, facilitate student engagement, allowing young people to belong, connect and succeed, academically, socially and emotionally.

As Head of Indie School, the successful candidate will work closely with other Tasmanian Heads of School and the Executive Principal (Tasmania) to facilitate the Indie Way through the delivery of high-quality holistic learning programs. The foundations of the Indie Way lie in adult education philosophies. Choice, autonomy, mutual respect and accountability all play a significant role in our approach at Indie. Our educational model combines high expectations and authentic connections to create a learning environment where young people can make meaningful progress in all areas of their lives.

About Indie School:

Indie School provides students the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment using individualised learning and education plans, tailored to each student's own education and life circumstances. Smaller class sizes allow students greater opportunity to identify their strengths and work to improve areas in which they lack confidence.

The greatest difference between Indie School and many other alternative education settings is that our foundations lie in Adult Education philosophies. Choice, independence, mutual respect and accountability all have a significant role to play. In return for higher levels of self-responsibility, the students can enjoy some greater freedoms.

Our schools are located in areas of socio-economic disadvantage, and we work with students who have found it difficult to engage with mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Our aim is to re-engage students with learning, improve literacy and numeracy skills and focus on the next step in the learning journey for each student: be that a desire to return to mainstream, pursue a TAFE/RTO pathway or to get ready for the workforce.

Our shared mission is to respond to the learning needs of Australian communities in a positive manner, underpinned by strong corporate governance and financial management. Our core values of respect, innovation, self development, and teamwork underpin every aspect of our work.
