About the Role

This is a senior leadership role responsible for leading KIK's technical strategy and owning the management and maintenance of our online learning platform (Grok Academy). The Head of Technology will manage resources efficiently within a not-for-profit context, lead technical innovation and optimisation of the platform, and ensure our technology capabilities drive growth and impact while remaining compliant with our policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. The HoT will also make key architectural and technology decisions and leverage technology to maximise social impact while building sustainable, scalable solutions.

The role is full-time, however we may consider part-time applicants, and is fully remote.

What you'll do:

· Develop technology solutions and strategy that advance our mission of digital inclusion

· Create and maintain sustainable, cost-effective technical architectures

· Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all technical solutions

· Align technology strategy with organisational mission and impact goals

· Guide technical decisions that maximise impact per dollar

· Ensure scalability, reliability, and security of all systems

· Lead technical decision-making around build vs. buy

· Establish technical standards and best practices

· Implement privacy-first data practices and application development methodologies

· Oversee cybersecurity strategy and implementation

· Ensure robust disaster recovery and business continuity

· Lead cloud strategy and infrastructure decisions

· Guide data architecture and governance

· Maintain appropriate technology policies and standards to ensure compliance with industry standards and frameworks

· Manage technical debt and system reliability

What we're looking for:

· Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field

· Minimum 8 years of technology and development leadership experience

· Experience with NFP or social impact technology

· Strong background in software architecture and design, particularly as it applies to effective web application development (OWASP, BSIMM)

· Strong data privacy and security knowledge, including compliance with data privacy regulations (COPPA, GDPR, The Australian Privacy Act 1988), and high security requirements/guidelines for sensitive student data

· Strong experience with cloud platforms and modern tech stacks (AWS, GCP, MS Azure, Django, Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript)

· Experience with microservices architectures

· Experience with database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, NewSQL)

· Experience with API design and management, particularly for educational content delivery

· Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and implementation

· Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML solutions with basic to intermediate deployment capability

· Thorough understanding of DevOps and SRE practices

· Experience with single sign-on (SSO) implementation across platforms
