Centre for Microscopy and Micoranalysis

Full-time, permanent position

Base salary will be in the range $82,133 - $91,295 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5)

Based at our St. Lucia Campus

About This Opportunity

If you’re a practical problem-solver who enjoys variety, teamwork, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, this is the role for you.

The Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM) is seeking a Service Support Officer to help ensure the seamless day-to-day operation of our world-class research facilities. In this role, you’ll provide both technical and digital support across our laboratories; from maintaining and repairing equipment and infrastructure to supporting data systems, training users, and keeping operations efficient and compliant.

You’ll be part of the Service Support Unit (SSU), a collaborative team that underpins CMM’s success by delivering vital technical, administrative, and health, safety and wellness services. Your work will help enable cutting-edge research in materials, environmental and life sciences, supporting UQ’s researchers as they explore the microscopic world.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and variety, someone who takes pride in ensuring research facilities run safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

Provide hands-on technical and mechanical support, including maintenance, repairs, and setup of research instruments, laboratory equipment, and facility infrastructure.

Deliver digital and data support by assisting with research data systems, user onboarding, record management, and software troubleshooting.

Contribute to safe and efficient operations by supporting health, safety and wellness procedures, completing test and tag activities, and maintaining accurate documentation and standard operating procedures.

Collaborate across the Service Support Unit (SSU) to provide responsive, high-quality support to staff, students, and clients across all CMM facilities.

Provide backfill support within the Service Support Unit (SSU) as needed, ensuring effective operational coverage during periods of leave or peak activity.
