About the role

The Aftercare program, funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health, offers a safe place of healing and support for people from the LGBTIQA+ community who are having thoughts or intentions of suicide. Aftercare offers short-term (up to three months), queer and peer-led, practical outreach and counselling-based support for community members, families and loved ones at no cost to find inclusive, affirming care and strategies for moving forward following a suicide crisis.

We are seeking a compassionate LGBTIQA+ Strategy and Service Development Manager for a permanent, fulltime opportunity in the Abbotsford area. You will manage the day-to-day operations of the Aftercare service through a lived expertise lens, whilst providing support and advice in regards to Mind’s LGBTIQA+ strategy, service delivery activities and the development of peer led service models.

Key responsibilities

  • Have a publicly disclosed LGBTIQA+ identity and personal/consumer lived experience of suicidality, along with demonstrated lived expertise and designated work experience that is equal to the level of the position.
  • Represent LGBTIQA+ suicide and recovery service innovation and development opportunities through advocacy and partnership development.
  • Lead an effective team ensuring that the requirements of the operating manual and service guidelines are met and service performance and budget targets are achieved.
  • Oversee and model safe, inclusive and affirming relational practice in working directly with community members, providing support to families and carers and the local community, undertaking planning and delivery of group work, and working with local service providers

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training.
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer work desirable but not required.
  • Experience and expertise in working directly with LGBTIQA+ community members with mental health issues, suicidal ideations and crisis, complex needs or life situations, and their families and carers, in both service delivery and strategic roles.
  • Proven experience in leadership and capability to coach, mentor and develop a team.
  • Experience in effective financial management, budget control and reporting.
