Marketing Officer

This is a temporary position with full time hours until 21 August 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Corporate Communications & Marketing team to design, plan, and execute creative marketing campaigns.
  • Identify and develop promotional opportunities, taking ideas from concept through to successful delivery.
  • Create and implement marketing strategies for Council as a whole and for individual programs as needed.
  • Provide strategic marketing advice and direction to internal teams, ensuring best practice approaches.
  • Promote Mackay Regional Council through digital marketing initiatives and community events.
  • Write and proofread engaging marketing copy to ensure clear, accurate, and creative communication.
  • Assist in organising a variety of Council events, including major celebrations and VIP functions.
  • Additional duties as assigned by management, within the scope of the role.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential

  • Proven experience in managing marketing campaigns.
  • Relevant tertiary or equivalent qualification in marketing, communication, business, journalism, media studies or related field, or substantial experience relevant to the role.
  • Understanding of desktop publishing and video editing software.
  • Current QLD 'C' Class drivers' licence.

Desirable

  • Creative and skilled in writing engaging advertising and marketing copy.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practice marketing, emerging trends, and hands-on experience in marketing and promotions.
  • Strong understanding of social media and digital marketing concepts.
  • Familiarity with photography, videography, desktop publishing, and video editing.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with experience tracking, evaluating, and developing marketing campaigns.
  • Effective team player with the ability to collaborate and contribute to group success.
  • Awareness of how to produce publications that cater to culturally diverse audiences.

Special Requirements:

This position may require some out of hours work and domestic travel.
