About us:
The Central Queensland Public Health Unit (CQPHU) consists of a multi-disciplinary team of staff including public health physicians, public health nurses, environmental health officers, epidemiologists, data managers, and business services staff, including some with regional wide roles. Public health focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, rather than of individuals. CQPHU aims to minimise the morbidity and mortality from communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases, and environmental health hazards thereby protecting the health of the population, and prevention of disease and illness.
About the role:
This role is a funded position that will be part of the Environmental Health team within Public Health Unit with the primary focus on enforcement of the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998, Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 and related national legislation. The Officer will be expected to conduct routine compliance inspections, undertake evidence gathering during targeted enforcement and where necessary prepare briefs of evidence and appear in court hearings.
About you:
While not mandatory, a relevant qualification in regulation, policing, law or environmental health would be highly regarded.
- The position holder will be required to have or be willing to complete a Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
- The position holder will be required to complete training and meet competencies required of Authorised Officers under public health legislation.
- Working knowledge of smoking product supply issues and legislation will be highly regarded.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $125,735 p.a. is comprised of:
- An hourly rate between $52.16 - $55.57 p.h.
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
