Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital
Are you a passionate, hands-on Chef who takes pride in creating high-quality meals that make a real difference? We're looking for an enthusiastic culinary professional to bring skill, creativity, and care to our hospital kitchen team at St John of God Midland Hospital.

In this role, you will work across all sections of the kitchen, preparing and serving delicious, nutritious food for our patients, visitors, and staff. You will play a key part in maintaining our reputation for excellence, ensuring every plate meets the highest standards of taste, presentation, and quality.

You will also uphold all Health Department of Western Australia (HDWA) regulations and follow our Hospital Food Safety Management Plan, ensuring the highest levels of hygiene, safety, and compliance at all times.

The Position

  • Responsible for preparation of all daily food production for the Hospitals (public & private).
  • Ensure that any dietary needs are taken care of each day. Cater for internal and external functions as requested.
  • Ensures Australian Standards, Codes of Practice, Legislative requirements and the Hospital Food Safety Plan (Good
  • Manufacturing Practices GMP) are met in providing services to patients and all other customers.
  • Ensures that a high level of service quality, timeliness, quantity, presentation and portioning of meals to all outlets is maintained.
  • Is to help provide staff training to enhance food presentation, meal service and quality.
  • Assist Manager Catering Services PNH & Executive Chef with establishing systems and procedures for waste minimisation, including recycling and co-mingling.
  • Holds a key position within the Catering Department and is responsible for demonstrating exemplary conduct and behaviour at all times.
  • Acts as a role model in following safe food handling techniques in accordance with current legislation.
  • Acts as a role model in promoting a harmonious, supportive and team orientated workplace.
  • Assists with the implementation and reviews of cleaning routines to comply with HDWA and Infection Control guidelines.
  • Ensures that all relevant food safety documentation is completed correctly and within the time frames stated as per the FSP.
  • Reports on equipment improvements/hazards/risks or repairs.
  • Promotes staff safety and welfare and identifies, acts upon and reviews factors relating to Occupational Safety and Health and Risk Management.
  • Participates in Departmental Quality Activities and other work-related meeting groups.

The successful applicant will hold a minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent) and possess sound knowledge of safe food handling processes, including HACCP and food safety standards. You will have proven experience working in the cooking or catering department of a reputable restaurant or hospitality establishment, demonstrating expertise in both Cook Chill and Cook Fresh food production systems.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to lead and motivate a team effectively. The candidate should also have a good understanding of normal and modified diets, including the preparation of thickened fluids, ensuring meals meet a variety of dietary needs in line with best practice and safety guidelines. Over 5 years previous experience with special diets/IDSI knowledge would be highly desirable.
