The Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Draftsperson to join our Projects team based in Scoresby. This full-time role involves preparing high-quality mechanical drawings and documentation for HVAC, building services, and related mechanical systems across commercial and industrial projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with our engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure all designs meet project requirements, quality standards, and Australian codes and regulations.
Salary: $80,000-$90,000 + car allowance
Key Responsibilities
Prepare mechanical services drawings including ductwork, pipework, plant layouts, schematics, and equipment schedules.
Develop as-built, construction, shop, and coordination drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Interpret and apply architectural, structural, and engineering drawings to produce coordinated services documentation.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other drafts people to ensure consistency and quality across documentation.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications (e.g., NCC, AS, standards).
Maintain drawing registers and version control for all documentation.
Support the design and documentation process from concept through to construction and final handover.
Participate in coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Identify and communicate any clashes, constructability issues, or inconsistencies in designs.
Assist in preparing documentation for approvals, tenders, and construction permits.
Maintain CAD and Revit standards across all drawing outputs.
Key Competencies
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a pleasant phone manner
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Excel and office-based databases
Be willing to undergo a national police background check
Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5+ years’ local experience in a mechanical drafting role, preferably within the HVAC or building services industry.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, duct and pipe routing, plant layout, and coordination practices.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of relevant building codes and industry standards (e.g., AS, NCC).
Attention to detail with strong documentation and time management skills.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects or packages simultaneously under pressure.
