About The Role:
The People and Culture/WHS Advisor plays a critical role in shaping our workplace culture, embedding safety and wellbeing, and supporting our people to thrive. This role is both strategic and hands-on, ideal for someone who can build systems from the ground up while supporting day-to-day operations. The role will work closely with the Executive Manager, People and Culture and the leadership team to co-design and implement culturally safe, trauma-informed Human Resources and Work, Health and Safety (WHS) practices that reflect our values, improve efficiency and support our growth. The People and Culture/WHS Advisor will foster a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace by leading initiatives in WHS, governance, risk management, and compliance. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing policies and procedures to ensure alignment with legislative and organisational requirements. With a focus on maintaining high standards of governance, the Advisor provides expert advice on WHS and employee wellbeing, supports a culture of accountability, and drives continuous improvement across people and culture practices.
Key responsibilities will include:
Develop and implement foundational HR and WHS policies and procedures
Establish and maintain HR systems aligned with our values and legal obligations.
Provide advice on employee relations, performance, and wellbeing.
Provide first-line generalist HR advice and support on terms and conditions of employment and HR policies and procedures, with a view to resolving matters on advice.
Coach and develop leaders to inspire and nurture employee engagement.
Support workforce planning, design and organisational development.
Undertake a generalist HR function to support other parts of the HR team such as recruitment and induction.
Demonstrate and facilitate team spirit and “above the line” culture in a changing environment.
Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
Promote a proactive safety culture that centres psychological and cultural safety.
Analyse and advise on WHS and workforce data trends, coordinate WHS training and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Develop, revise and maintain effective communication links with the Workplace Health and Safety Committee by providing regular reports and feedback on activities including prevention of accidents, promotion of health and safety, risk issues and emergency procedures

Qualifications and Requirements:
Qualification in Human Resources, WHS, or a related field.
Proven and successful experience in a Human Resources advisory, generalist and/or business partner role in a dynamic, flexible and fast-paced environment, ideally in the Community Services sector
Strong understanding of Fair Work, WHS legislation, and culturally safe practices.
Experience with WHS and HRIS systems, alongside the ability to build systems and processes in a start-up or growth environment.
Outcome focused approach and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Technical competency working with various Awards; specifically, the SCHADS award is desirable.
Strong organisational and administrative skills, including intermediate skills in Microsoft Office.
Ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Satisfactory LCS2/7 and National Police checks, or able to obtain
Working with Children Check (Blue card) and NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card), or able to obtain
