About Drug and Alcohol Services Australia (DASA)

Drug and Alcohol Services Australia (DASA) is a respected, community-based organisation with over 40 years of experience supporting individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drug use across Alice Springs, Groote Eylandt, and surrounding regions.

Through a therapeutic, person-centred model, DASA provides a range of programs and services including residential rehabilitation, sobering-up shelters, outreach services, and alternative-to-custody programs. With nearly 80 staff across multiple locations, many of whom bring lived experience to their work, DASA is deeply embedded in the communities it serves.

We are driven by six core values — Integrity, Diversity, Compassion, Community, Collaboration, and Innovation — and we pride ourselves on creating a workplace that is inclusive, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and deeply impactful.

Step Into a Role That Drives Real Change

We are seeking a People & Culture Manager to lead the people function across DASA. Based in Alice Springs, this full-time, permanent role reports to the Deputy CEO, supervises the Corporate Services Officer, and works closely with DASA’s executive team and service managers.

This is a pivotal leadership opportunity, not just to manage HR operations, but to actively shape workplace culture, support capability growth, and influence organisational strategy.

You’ll provide hands-on guidance to managers, embed fair and inclusive HR practices, strengthen our leadership development, and ensure our people processes reflect both compliance and care. While HR systems and policy are part of the remit, this role is ultimately about leading with integrity, modelling professionalism, and enabling others to thrive.

Day-to-day, you’ll be deeply embedded in DASA’s leadership rhythm — attending monthly executive meetings, participating in quality forums, joining the leadership lunch tradition, and engaging in informal daily collaboration. You’ll also be involved in key recruitment, performance, and training initiatives across all DASA programs and sites.

If you’re looking for a values-led role where your work will be seen, supported, and make a lasting difference — this is it.

The Right Fit, Right Here

We’re looking for someone with solid HR capability and strong character — someone who understands the importance of structure, but leads with empathy and professionalism.

You will bring:

Qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related field

At least 3-5 years’ experience in HR, ideally including exposure working with leadership

A current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote locations

Confidence supporting managers and shaping culture across a diverse workforce

Experience with employee relations, performance, policy, and compliance

Ability to lead one direct report while coaching others in HR best practice

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Familiarity with HRIS platforms

Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and/or professional HR certification (desirable)

And you will thrive in this role if you are:

Resilient, with the ability to stay calm in complex or high-pressure situations

Ethical and discreet, with strong boundaries and a high level of professionalism

Culturally intelligent, inclusive, and committed to equity

Collaborative, ready to be a true partner to leadership

Practical and empathetic, balancing people care with organisational goals

Down-to-earth, with a sense of humour and a strong work ethic

Settling In and Being Set Up for Success

Your onboarding at DASA will be structured and fully supported, with a focus on building strong relationships and understanding our culture from the inside out.

In your first few weeks, you will:

Complete a comprehensive online induction

Visit each of DASA’s Alice Springs sites to connect with teams and observe operations firsthand

Spend dedicated time with our Quality & Compliance Manager to understand our governance and systems

Travel to Bundaberg to meet and learn from your direct report and gain working knowledge of HR systems, including payroll

Begin shadowing key leadership forums and informal daily conversations to quickly integrate into the team

This is not a “sink or swim” environment — you will be supported from day one, and your contributions will be welcomed immediately.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

Starting from $130K + super

Salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay

6 weeks of paid annual leave plus 4 additional paid mental health days

Up to $3,000 relocation support if moving to Alice Springs

Ongoing professional development and leadership coaching

Genuine daily collaboration with a strong, values-aligned executive team

A meaningful leadership role in a socially impactful organisation

Inclusive. Supportive. Real.

DASA warmly welcomes applications from:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

LGBTQIA+ individuals

People with disability or accessibility needs

People with lived experience of alcohol or drug use, in active recovery (with at least two years’ separation from treatment)

DASA is a smoke-free workplace, conducts criminal history checks, and requires all employees to undergo regular drug and alcohol testing.
