Water Design Engineer

About the Role

The Water Design Engineer (Dewatering) will be responsible for delivering concept and detailed design deliverables associated with water infrastructure projects across multiple mine sites. The engineer will take the lead role in completing designs in accordance with relevant Australian standards in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Key Accountabilities

• Hydraulic modelling of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds, tanks, etc.
• Preparation and compilation of technical deliverables including construction drawings, quantity estimates, and scope definitions.
• Liaison with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Facilitation of project design reviews, including field inspections and design conformity checks.
• Development of final engineering deliverables such as pipeline schematics, GA’s, P&ID’s, and critical equipment selection.
• Input to capital estimates, including quantity calculations and MTO compilation.
• Coordination of operational readiness requirements.
• Ensuring schedule compliance and escalating risks as required.
• Providing construction support through technical queries and design documentation updates.
• Producing equipment data sheets and evaluating vendor proposals for budget and technical compliance.
• Ensuring all designs meet statutory regulations, project requirements, and good engineering practice.
• Maintaining clear and timely communication regarding design progress, changes, risks, and issues.
• Supporting and sharing information with other disciplines as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Chemical Engineering, or Civil Engineering, recognised by Engineers Australia.
• 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical piping systems and pipeline design, ideally within the mining or engineering consultancy sector.
• Previous experience in mine dewatering is highly regarded.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid understanding of discipline technology, design principles, and multi-discipline coordination.
• Knowledge of relevant Australian and international standards and regulatory requirements within mining and water industries.
• Ability to travel to site for short scoping trips or stakeholder engagement.
• Self-starter with the ability to deliver on schedule and budget.
• Competency in Visio and ArcMap (preferred).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
• Must have full Australian work rights to be considered.
