The Role:
Menzies School of Health Research is looking for a Research Fellow to support an Aboriginal-led study on the Commercial Determinants of Indigenous Health: Project White-Ant. This research project aims to support Aboriginal communities to identify and mitigate harms caused by commercial practices to health and wellbeing while maximising the benefits from commercial systems.
The project and position will involve extensive qualitative and policy-based research with Aboriginal people and important players in the policy space in the NT. The role will also require developing and managing relationships with community organisations across the NT to facilitate and implement data collection and community engagement in ways that are appropriate and tailored to each community. We are looking for someone with passion and experience to play an important role in driving our study.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Play a leading role in the design and conduct of research activities through the use of a range of methodologies, including qualitative research and policy analysis, with Aboriginal communities across the NT.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, organisations and community members from Aboriginal communities across the NT.
- Supervise and mentor junior research staff.
About you:
As an experienced researcher, you will bring a PhD in health or social sciences with a record of relevant research experience.
You also have:
- Experience working in regional and remote Aboriginal communities and with/for Aboriginal community organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to make significant and original high-quality contributions to research through activities such as quality publications and external grant acquisition, in Australia and/or internationally, that expand knowledge and practice in the discipline.
- Demonstrated experience providing guidance and support to junior staff members.

The Benefits:
- Base Salary $121,170 - $128,734 per annum (Total remuneration package including superannuation $148,327 - $157,024 per annum).
- Generous leave provisions including 6 weeks annual leave.
- Salary packaging up to $15,900 per annum and $2,650 meal and entertainment card tax free.
- Option to increase Super to 14%.
